Bob Daw & Friends Variety Show
The Beaufort County Traditional Music Association is pleased to present the BCTMA Third Thursday Variety Show featuring an evening with local musicians Bob Daw, Jay Costello, and Squint & Son on August 15 from 7:00-8:30 PM. These guitarists will be playing music ranging from old country songs and classic rock, to easy going music with a classical twist.
Bob Daw
Bob is from Blount Creek and enjoys playing old country songs and classic rock. His performances will feature some of his favorite songs that he loves to sing. He began playing guitar when he was 13, when he learned to play the blues from a neighbor. He also played in several bands during his high school years. He put his guitar aside for work and family responsibilities, and began playing music again when he was 50 years old. He loves to play with friends and family and other musicians who enjoy picking and singing old songs. Planning this BCTMA Variety Show is one of his favorite activities.
Jay Costello
Jay Costello is from Chocowinity. He has played professionally in bands featuring a variety of styles. He appreciates all forms of music, but his favorite music is from the late 60s and early 70s. He started playing music as a child, and began playing in the Philadelphia area. He has played in large bands and duos. He is currently the bass player for CatHead Biscuit, a local Rhythm and Blues band that plays in the Greenville/Washington area. His influences include Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Barbara Streisand for vocal praising, and Paul McCartney, and Billy Joel for song construction. He has been mostly influenced by local Philly/East Carolina Musicians.
Andy and Jake Squint
Squint and Son is composed of the father/son team of Andy and Jake Squint from Washington. These guitarists enjoy feel good/easy going music with a classical twist. They will be sharing their newest original song, “Flip Flops” at the show Thursday night. They have been performing together for 2 years. Jake started playing washboard at the age of 4, and has been studying classical guitar for 3 years. Andy also was a child musician beginning with percussion and has performed, recorded and toured since. They have been influenced by Jack Johnson, Tommy Emanuel, Ka’au Crater Boys, and Gabriel y Rodrigo. They enjoy playing together at Backwater Jacks in Washington.
Admission is free and donations are appreciated.
